A NEWLY COMPOSED SONG for my latest concert/show called, BLOOD ORCHID – How Women Feel,  that celebrates the life and work of Hildegard Von Bingen (born 1098, died 1179).

HILDEGARD VON BINGEN
c. Barbara Lewis, 2017

Hildegard von Bingen, lady of dark ages
brilliant woman in a cell
she was holding visions in her eyes

holding tight to paradise
she was illuminating soul and world
her growing wisdom thus unfurled
Oh Lady…

Hildegard von bingen, lady of nature
through mandalas of the mind
she was gazing at the manly stem
that fills a lady’s hidden gem
where secret organs bloom and grasp
where supple babies swim and bask
Oh Lady…

Hildegard von bingen, lady of power
building mastery stone by stone
scorning men with pious eyes
scorning kings their endless lies
as their errors suck the juice from hope
these empty souls she’d pick and poke
Oh Lady…

Dear Hildegard, you cast a seer’s glance upon the inner sea
you promised other women, “You too can be free!”

Hildegard von Bingen, lady of dark ages
lonely woman in a cell
she was holding visions in her eyes
holding tight to paradise
she was illuminating soul and world
her growing wisdom thus unfurled
Oh Lady…
