Better Balance in the Throat…

Hara's Quest - MandalaThe Neeee exercise can help to re-balance vocal cords…

Neeee.long-held

I am singing this long held note on the first F above middle C. You do not need to have piano accompaniment. You can just intone the note. Sing along with me, if you like. The exercise is one of several suggested by Glenna Waters, speech therapist as a way to improve vocal cord function. But note that while I am giving this note a rather singerly tone, Glenna stresses that the exercise is NOT really meant to be sung in  its more therapeutic uses. Still, I find that when I use this and the following exercise as my first warm ups, my voice feels more focussed and healthy.

And the glide on the word Knoll… helps to keep the cords moving smoothly through the entire range.

Glide-on-KNOLL  – I start as low as possible (not using chest voice) and glide into the top. I sing this using more of an AH than the the two LLs.

Go here: “Improve Singing!”   – for a lot more detail on exercises that can help to heal poorly functioning voices.

And go here for a longer warm up: SING WITH ME! – especially for beginning singers…
