I.wrote this song about one year after the sudden death of my husband of thirty years.

It is only now, 6 years later that I can share the song with others. I hope it helps those who are suffering through the early stages of having lost someone. I can tell you this… The pain does subside. Life does go on. I have a new love now and a wonderful life. But my long-time life-companion, for whom I wrote this song still lives deep in my heart. He has made me a better person. (Also read here: 7 Powerful Ways To Deal With Grief.)

My best to all of you who can benefit from a song like this…Barbara Lewis

GARDENS ON THE HILL (music and lyrics by Barbara Lewis)
Each night I walk alone to the gardens on the hill
My eyes are damp with tears, my heart is dark & still, dark & still. I watch the sunlight fade, and I… I count the days since you’ve been gone, since you’ve been gone…
In May the buds are new, the leaves are tender green
I walk the hills at night in a solitary dream, in a dream
I watch the sunlight fade, and I…I count the weeks since you’ve been gone, since you’ve been gone…

CHORUS: And I feel your touch upon my skin
I hear you calling me, calling…

Deep in July the hills are sweet with summer blooms
I breathe your name to them like a melancholy tune,
I watch the sunlight fade, and I…I count the months since you’ve been gone, since you’ve been gone…

CHORUS: And I feel your touch upon my skin
I hear you calling me, calling

Now, at September’s end – a chill is in the air
The flowers have bowed their heads, their blooms beyond repair, beyond repair. I feel how time is passing. Now that I’ve lost you for a year, almost a year
CHORUS: And I feel your touch upon my skin
I hear you calling me, calling
How will I ever let you go?
